what's Aikido

Aikido is a modern Martial Art created by the Founder, Morihei Ueshiba. After the Founder's passing, his son Kisshomaru Ueshiba was inaugurated as Aikido Doshu. At present, Moriteru Ueshiba has succeeded his father as Aikido Doshu.

Aikido does not unnecessarily compete with opponents in terms of strength and weakness. The purpose of Aikido is to train each other through friendly competition and to develop body and mind through techniques born from the bodywork and breathing power of irimi and conversion. Aikido is not about competing with others for superiority or inferiority, so there are no matches or competitions.

Currently, Aikido has spread to 140 countries around the world.

The Aikido Honbu Dojo was founded in 1931. Under the leadership of Doshu, many Shihan and Shihan-dai are united in their efforts to develop and improve their training as the center of Aikido.
